2011 Gibson Custom Shop Futura Murphy Aged “Korina”
The original prototype design for the Gibson Explorer, the split-headstock design of the Futura model showcases the radical designs Gibson Guitar was unveiling in 1957-58. Very few originals are known to exist making them some of the most collectible vintage guitars in the world. This 2011 Custom Shop recreation is the next best thing, featuring a lightweight korina body, dark rosewood fingerboard, aged hardware, and a Tom-Murphy aged finish. Purchased in 2011 as part of a limited run, The guitar was later aged by Tom Murphy in 2018 and includes a signed letter to that effect, as well as a Gibson COA and all the original case candy. Korina wood is known for its unique sound and this guitar is a perfect example. Whether it's Albert King, Rick Derringer, or Rick Nielsen, Korina guitars are behind some of the most distinctive guitar tones on record, making this guitar a worthy addition to any collection.
