"Goldie" as it is nicknamed, is an original 1959 Les Paul "Burst" with a distinctive and highly figured top. It's originality and provenance make it one of the better known "bursts" amongst players and collectors, making it a natural choice for Gibson's "Collector's Choice" series of reissues. As the name would suggest, the original Goldie's finish has faded, leaving almost no trace of the original red aniline dye that would have made up the Sunburst finish when the guitar was new. This guitar, sporting serial number 001 was made for the NAMM show and seeks to recreate what this famous guitar would have looked like brand new from the factory. Aside from the unfaded finish, the guitar is an exact reproduction of Goldie based on extensive scans and measurements of the neck profile, top carve, pickup outputs, etc. All of this adds up to a uniquely beautiful Les Paul that faithfully recreates the most desirable features of one of the most famous Les Pauls in the world.
